This is a BIG one! Ghost Cello 2: The Dark Side is here.
Hey everyone, Royal Dean here! I work alongside Kevin as the principle programmer at Triumph Audio. By now I’m sure you’ve heard the news, Ghost Cello 2: The Dark is OUT! This library is BIG and I want to share some thoughts on why it’s different from the rest.
Of all our libraries, this one is the biggest! Not only because its the largest size wise or has the most patches out of our libraries, but more so that it is our most significant library (so far). In February 2023, we released our first library Ghost Cello. This is where it all started and kicked off the many libraries we have released thus far - throughout the past year and half we always have known that there HAD to be a sequel… a follow up… to Ghost Cello, and now it’s here.
There’s this story I’ve heard, I’m fairly certain it was Picasso who said it, but it goes something like this: someone watches Picasso create a masterpiece on a napkin in a few minutes. She says, “Great, I'll give you 5 bucks for it?” To which he replies, “I’ll give it to you for 2 million dollars.” In shock she responds with, “but it only took you a few minutes?” Picasso then says, “no it took me 30 years to create that.” I think this story is brilliant and helps encapsulate some of my thoughts on Ghost Cello 2: The Dark Side.
Now I’m not saying that Kevin Manthei, myself, or anyone on the team are Picasso, but what I am saying is that Ghost Cello wasn’t just the creation of a new library, it took 10 libraries to make Ghost Cello 2 - in a philosophical sense and a literal technique sense. This is really the combination of the many techniques we’ve picked up on since creating and releasing Ghost Cello. We’ve grabbed numerous techniques that we’ve used throughout our libraries and implemented them into Ghost Cello 2: MOD MORPH from Short Wave, recording samples with feedback similar to Feedback Drones, taking the samples and doing modular processing (shout out to Jake Weston for doing amazing modular work) similar to how we did in Cinematic Solo FX, and the list goes on. Numerous techniques, many hard working people on our dedicated team, many spreadsheets, and many zoom meetings is what made this thing come to life. There are so many aspects to this library that I hope you can take the time to dive in and really utilize the library for all it’s worth.
One of the things I admire most about this beast is its immediacy and versatility - how it can provide ideas instantly. It can guide and inspire you to write your next piece without it being too specific. Specific enough to give a direction to run, then I as the composer, have to run and see that idea through. Ghost Cello 2 won’t write the piece of music for you, but it will certainly help. Or if you need to add FX or sound design on your piece, Ghost Cello 2 can help. Need a robust collection of incredible cinematic modern loops and pulses? BOOM Ghost Cello 2 has it. So many ways to use this library, so little time… all this said, I can say confidently, if you use this library, you will love it!
Throughout the whole process of crafting this library from initial programming to creating processed content, to beta testing, to release, I found myself playing the library out of sheer enjoyment and inspiration. I like to think that if I think it sounds good and is useful, it will be to other composers, producers, and music makers as well. So it’s been a wild ride, from our first recording session with Piper Manthei in 2022 all the way to release day, this library didn’t just happen, it was crafted by composers who care and want to create something different that is inspiring and helps solve composers problems.
Now that we are on the other side, and Ghost Cello 2 is out, you may be wondering, “what’s next for Triumph?” Great question… stick around and see. :) If you use Ghost Cello 2 in any capacity in your music, please share it with us! It would make me genuinely happy to see what you do with this chilling sequel library.
Happy writing everyone!
- Royal.
